Diwali or Festival of Lights.

  Diwali
Diwali is a festival celebrated between mid-October and mid-December and for Hindus Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes. The name "Diwali" is a contraction of "Deepavali" which translates into "row of lamps”. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. These lamps are kept on during the night and one's house is cleaned, both done in order to make the goddess Lakshmi feel welcome.

Diwali

Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas and by bursting firecrackers.

  Diwali

Diwali is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore, and Fiji.

Boss’s Day October 16

Ok Boss this is it

Boss’s Day also known as The Bo$$ Day or National Boss Day is a secular holiday celebrated on October 16 in the United States and Canada. It has traditionally been a day for employees to thank their bosses for being kind and fair throughout the year.

Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois. Four years later in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day.

  Boss’s Day

National Boss' Day has become an international celebration in recent years and now is observed in countries such as Australia, India and South Africa and very recently Ireland ,UK and Egypt(10 Dec every year only in Egypt ). One interesting feature of this occasion in India, is that bosses present gifts to their subordinates.

Nurses Day / Week

The celebration of National Nurses Week is held yearly and opens on May 6, which is the official National Nurses Day (USA), and continues through May 12. International Nurse Day is celebrated on May 12 which is the birthday of the worlds most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.

The roots of International Nurses Day goes back to 1953, when Dorothy Sutherland of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a "Nurse Day" in October of the following year. The proclamation was not officially made. But, this day was born and eventually gained national recognition.

In 2003, National School Nurses Day was moved from the fourth Wednesday in January to the Wednesday of Nurses Week. Many websites, still record School Nurses Day in January, unaware of this change.

Operating Room Nurses Week and Day is celebrated in the second week in November. Other nursing specialties also have their own specific weeks at different times of the year. National Nurses Week celebrates all nurses at the same time.

Therefore, if you know a nurse why not send them a card to show them a small sign of appreciation for the great work that they do and if you want to give them something a bit more unique, then why don’t you make that greeting card your self. You will find all the help, supplies and inspiration you will need at Crafts U Print even temples to make things a bit easier.

Mother’s Day

We all have a special place in our harts for our mothers; she is the unsung hero of the family. She was looking after us before we were born and no matter how old we get, we will always look to her for support and help.

There is not enough space on this blog to name all the ways that my mother helps me day in day out, let alone all the ways that your mothers help you. We would never be able to repay them for all the help and love they have given to us and they would not want us to, but this Mothers Day lets try to show them how much we love and appreciate them.

Thank You Mum

Birthday and Anniversary cards

Now at the start of a new year I am busy adding all the birthdays and anniversaries to my new calendar and diary, even giving each one a two week pre warning in the hope that I do not forget any this year. I got to thinking that if I got all the birthday cards that I need for the year; ready to send off then I will have less chance of forgetting them. So with my list of birthdays for the year I went shopping online and many of the websites give discounts on cards, the more you buy the bigger the discount.

At the start of the New Year after the holidays many people are all shopped out, so all of the retailers are putting on sales to get people shopping again. This is another opportunity to save money as well as having all your birthday and anniversary cards ready to send out when you need them.

Now that have a list of all the birthday and anniversary cards for the coming year why not look at all the Christmas card you received this year and make a list so that you do not forget anyone next year. Armed with your lists you can start picking your cards, many websites let you add cards to your basket then go back at a later date to keep shopping before you check out and all from the comfort of your home.

Now all you have to do when the cards arrive is put in your own message, address the envelope and remember to post it in time to get to its destination. Well, not if the person you sending the card to lives in America because companies like www.greetingcarduniverse.com will let you put your message on the card and you tell them where and when (give enough time travel by post) and they will post off the cards for you.

Let’s hope that this year is the year that we do not forget any birthdays or anniversaries.

New Year 2011

The year is fast coming to an end and soon 2010 will be just a memory. With the start of the New Year we begin to think of new beginnings and starting a fresh, many of us will already have a long list of New Year resolutions of which most will have been broken before the all of the Christmas turkey has been eaten.

This year instead of making the usual big resolutions that are soon broken and forgotten I will be setting myself smaller, more reachable targets that can be measured. With a bit of luck I will be able to keep to them and build upon them over the coming year. Like any big task that can seam impossible, when broken down into small tasks is soon achieved. So why not join me this year and do not make any big New Year resolutions but rather make smaller ones that you can keep to.

So now for the entire internet to see, here are some of my New Years resolutions:

1/ to post more often on this blog and my other sites.
2/ remember to send birthday cards (on time).

Just two may not be a lot but once I have achieved them I can move on to others one step at a time. So why don’t you make some New Years resolutions that you can keep this year, put them in the comments below or on your own blog so that people can remind you to keep to them.

Have a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
